A Touch of Class in Every Glass

Before Wine
A. Bommarito Wines is the premier wine wholesale distributor in the state of Missouri. The company was founded in 1990 by Anthony Bommarito (Tony). Tony found his way to the wine wholesale business through fine dining. He and his brother, Vince Bommarito, were partners in the restaurant business for over 35 years. They owned and operated two internationally acclaimed restaurants, Tony's and Anthony's. Vince continues to run Tony's with his three sons at his side while Tony has been busy creating quite a buzz in the Missouri wine scene.
From Humble Beginnings…
Four decades delivering culinary excellence enabled Tony to transfer his recipe for success to the wine business. "It's really quite simple,” as Mr. Bommarito puts it, “It's all about starting with quality ingredients and delivering with exceptional service. We started as a humble distributor with a desire to introduce the state of Missouri (my home) to quality wines from all over the world. While I must admit that we have grown considerably from those early days, we still try to keep it simple and never loose sight of our mission - deliver quality products with great service." The company holds true to three principles: Quality, Honesty and Integrity - a rare breed in today's marketplace.
…To Today's Operation
A. Bommarito Wines has grown from those early days. They now have offices on both sides of the state (St. Louis and Kansas City). They cover every major market throughout the sate including St. Louis, Cape Girardeau, Springfield, Columbia, St. Joseph and Kansas City. The company employs 32 people with 13 people dedicated to selling wine on a daily basis.
What do They Sell?
A. Bommarito represents an exceptional portfolio of quality-oriented producers from all over the world. The portfolio consists of well over 500 labels from Argentina, Chile, California, Oregon, Australia, South Africa, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Portugal and Spain. To simply say Italy, France and Germany is really an understatement. Tony's French book is an extensive collection of the great wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy as well as estate producers from Champagne, Loire, Rhone and southern France. His German collection is a “who's who” among small estate producers from the Mosel, Rhine, Pfalz and Nahe valleys. As for Italy, you will undoubtedly find the finest collection of Italian wines in the state. This includes depth in the great Tuscan and Piedmont regions as well as Veneto and Collio Friulli, to name a few.
The approach is quite similar for New World Wines. They partner with quality intensive producers who strive to bring the best out of the land and their talents. This approach has rewarded Tony with the opportunity to represent such outstanding producers as Bryant Family, Harlan, Lewis, Viader, Pahlmeyer, Etude, Paul Hobbs, Meo-Camuzet…and the list goes on and on. Tony looks for quality at every level of the book and represents an incredible array of labels with a high price-to-value ratio such as Hess, Toad Hollow, Steele, Alamos and Castle Rock.
What makes these guys so great?
Tony has built a solid company with one guiding principle: Quality. He treats his wines with an incredible amount of care and respect. The warehouse is immaculately clean, incredibly well-organized and executionally flawless. Tony pays a premium to have the wines shipped from the east or west coast in temperature-controlled trucks. His warehouse is both temperature and humidity controlled, year-round. They deliver wines to their customers in carpeted, insulated vans - "When we deliver a bottle of wine to one of our customers, we want it to be as fresh as it was when it left the winemaker's hands." Tony has made it his mission to treat every customer with the same level of care and respect - "we want every customer to know that· we care about their business." In this industry, A. Bommarito's operation is a true thing of beauty.
The people in Missouri are lucky to have a company like A. Bommarito wines committed to driving quality in the retail shops and restaurants throughout the state. Some say A. Bommarito is a dying breed but Tony says, "We've got a long way to go."
Now you understand what Tony means when he says: “We smell, sniff, swirl and spit so you don't have to!”
